According to my
colleague in Jordan, early childhood education started developing during the
last ten years. Private schools offer a
better quality education; however, public schools are still struggling to
provide a quality preschool education. This is due to poverty and poor teacher
education. Queen Rania has implemented
several non-profit organizations to improve the quality of education in Jordan,
such as the Jordan Education Initiative and the Madrasati initiative. These are long-term projects that are
starting to make a difference in early childhood education in Jordan.
Here
in Saudi Arabia, the situation is similar; actually, private preschools offer
high quality programs and some of them even implement the Common Core
Standards. However, public schools do
not offer quality early childhood programs because they are not considered as
an important level in education.
Moreover, very few teachers are qualified to teach young children and
very few children attend preschools. This
widens the gap between rich and poor families.
Hi Ghayna,
ReplyDeleteIt is a same that some countries do not have what is needed to thrive in the early childhood field or the country does not see the need for the education of young children and they are left behind. It is amazing to find out how other countries live and educate their people. It is wonderful to know that Queen Rania has implemented was to improve the quality of education in Jordan.

Hi Ghayna,
ReplyDeleteI share you the same opinion, public schools in many countries including Lebanon are still providing low quality education. Unfortunately, only families of high income afford private schools services while the majority of children are stuck in ineffective education programs that do not provide opportunities to succeed in the future.
Ghayna,
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting to hear from someone who has first knowledge about the field of early childhood education from an international perspective. Your insight about the educational system in your country greatly interests me. Little did I know how fortunate children in the United States are to have access to programs such as Head Start
