The first international organization that I chose is the United
Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), which supports children’s survival and
development, basic education and gender equity, HIV/AIDS prevention, and child
protection around the world. This
organization appealed to me because of the work they do in my home country,
Syria. This issue is especially dear to
me because I have already lost family members in this conflict and I know many
others who are struggling to survive.
War is the only thing the very young children of Syria have ever known,
and working with these children to make sure that violence does not become a
normal behavior is imperative. Working
with the UNICEF to help the children is something that I am hoping to be able
to do.
The second international organization that I chose is Save
the Children, this organization gives children around the world a healthy
start, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. This organization appealed to me because it
gives children around the world an opportunity for success by providing quality
education, emergency response, quality health and nutrition programs, disease
prevention programs, improving livelihoods, disaster prevention and protecting
children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence.
The third international organization that I chose is the United
Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, which has several
sectors such as education, natural sciences, social and human sciences,
culture, and communication and information.
The mission of the UNESCO is to build peace, eradicate poverty, contribute
to sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the
sciences, culture, communication and information. The UNESCO focuses on education in Africa and
promoting gender equality.
These organizations offer many job opportunities as well
as volunteering opportunities. There are
also international professional vacancies that offer the opportunity to work
abroad. Another job vacancy I would be
interested in is working at UNESCO as a translator or interpreter because I had
the opportunity to learn languages at school and I am fluent in English, Arabic
and French.

Hi Ghinah,
ReplyDeleteIt was sad to hear what the children in your country of Syria are going through and how you have lost family members to conflict as well. Therefore it was good to hear that you, yourself want to help the children overcome such tragedy. It was also good news to hear how the UNICEF organization is working with the children to help break the cycle of young children being used to fight in war. Also, what is more important is that they are not only helping children with their education, and overall development, but it sounds like they are working with the whole child in every area possible which is very important as well.
Furthermore, you have some valuable skills that would benefit the early childhood profession. I feel being able to speak languages other than your own is one in a million. This is what I feel the early childhood profession really need. Professionals that are fluent in other languages in the communities they teach in where families that speak mostly that language I feel would be very helpful to the families, and their children while adjusting to the program. Therefore, by having someone working within the early childhood program that speak a family’s language to interpret important information while still learning the English language would benefit all individuals involved.
Thank you for sharing your personal story about children of war, and how it affected you firsthand. I agree with you that showing children they do not have to have violence as a part of their normal behavior. Thank you for providing this information. I too, chose UNICEF as one of my organizations that I liked as well.
